Work does have its perks. Last month, I got to visit one of the greatest cities in the world: New York, New York. For Fashion Week, nonetheless! It was a crazy four days, but damn, was it fun. After getting off the plane and freshening up, I met up with Mr. Rob Navarro for dinner at Vapiano. And then gelato. And then this margarita pitcher happened. Yes, this is what happens when you meet up with Rob in New York.
Oh, and then this happened. This is what happens after two people finish a pitcher of margaritas. They hop in a taxi and go to the top of the Empire State Building. Rob had never been even though he’s lived in NY for a while now–hey, it’s now or never!
They next day, I worked. YAY, work! It was extremely slow at our event because of the impending blizzard. But alas, Fashion Week goes on, blizzard or no blizzard. I made my way to Lincoln Center for my first real Fashion Week experience. Lincoln Center was as beautiful as ever with all the posters up and the snow falling. The collections were to die for–my favorite had animal graphics etched onto gorgeous leather pieces. And of course, I had to get some time in with the cars; after all, it is Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. [Props to Timmery for snapping photos!]
After a night of drinks and good company–Timmery and her sister, Rob and his Peace Corps friends–I made the way back all of two blocks through Nemo. My very first blizzard, what a treat! The next day was also spent at work and then I caught up with the lovely Joelle Gamble over Mexican food (this exists in NY!), rice pudding, and wine. Joelle reminded me of where we came from and what we’re made of… just the kick in the pants that I needed! I am so proud of her for doing it big, but of course, I would expect no less.
All in all, my work trip to New York was actually filled with a lot of play time. I did quite a few things in a limited amount of time, but didn’t get around the everything. Can’t wait to go back and pick up the slack!
